i am looking for the best spot for my oil temp sender. i have a cj5 with a 258. i dont want to put it in the oil pan cuz i want to keep it up high and dry. i put a t fitting where the pressure gauge is on the block but it reads low, like 140 deg. there is a plug on the oil filter boss with a square drive (not 1/4 ore 3/8)
what is this? and would it make a good spot for the sender?

thanks,

jik

Wouldn't be just as easy to use the water temp gage to determine engine temp? I assume the oil would not be that much different. I can say I have not seen an oil temp gage in action...yet

eh..oil temp and jacket water temp do give you some different info and have a different value if you are super critical of each.

that said, not a real popular need that's for sure.

What do you *think* your oil temp should be?

i do have a mechanical water temp gauge in my block and it works good, honestly i just like guages and i thought the oil temp would be a good back up with a little more info on engine status for that slow, hot rock crawling wheeling i do. i used an infared thermometer and it reads 143 at the t-fitting and 180 at the pan and the oil filter. besides dont any of you motor heads know what the plug by the oil filter is for just for the sake of knowing more then me?
