Doin mantainence on my B&S powered lawnmower. It uses a foam pre-cleaner under the airfilter and the package ( B&S ) says to oil it and wring it out before installing, however their website says not to oil this part#, wth ? I've oiled them before and find even blotted well w a rag, the oil get's absorbed by the paper filter and probly causes some restriction of the airflow IMO, your thoughts?

Run 1 for years, in my John Deer. Have tried kerosene, & diesel, but seems to make a mess. I usually run it dry, & just blow it clean, after each use. Keeps the paper filter, looking new. A few weeks back, I treated it with some left over K&N air filter oil. I haven't checked it since, due to cutting "dustless" grass! [rain] I'll probably go back to dry. Proper maintenance, [cleaning] is what counts.

Thanks all, I installed it dry this time, I use the mower to rake my leaves in the fall and it can get pretty dusty then, but the paper filter stops fine stuff anyway so i'll check it more often and see how it works dry it sure would clean up/wash better if it was'nt oiled.
