does anyone run synthetic in their trucks? I run it in all my cars, but i was wondering if anyone had any bad experiences running it offroad. I have a 22re if it helps, im pretty sure it won't matter but just wanted to check first
Yea, if it's higher mileage, I'd stay away from full synthetic unless it's had full synthetic since a low mileage. Full synthetic is a smaller molecule that can seep past seals that have hardened with heat and time, causing leaks. Unless you replace all the seals. You could go with a semi synthetic and have no leak worries. (Other than the usual ones).
the motor has about140k on it so i guess i won't run it, my motor leaks a tiny bit right now and i really dont want to pay for synthetic and have it all leak out, haha thanks guys
I have been running "synthetic" for quite a while, so the truck has at least had it since ~70k miles, not sure about before that.
Started running a true synthetic at 180k miles and it runs excellently. Couldn't be happier with this type of oil, which I happen to sell as well.
I run rotella 15w-40 in everything I have year round...and yes it would be safe to run. As for the synthetic...has it lived it's life with synthetics, does it leak or smoke? If it hasn't been run with synthetics or you have a leak or smoking, I'd stick to dino's.
x whatever on rotella or any thicker oil for that matter if you've got a small leak or higher miles. also have prolonged engined life by using 1qt of lucas oil stabilizer in with each oil change on very high mile vehicles. another trick for gummed engines is run some Marvel Mystery oil in with your regular oil for a few oil changes to help break it up. then remove the oil pan and scrape all that out. MM oil also does wonders for your fuel injectors when you use it in the gas tank!
and as far as full synthetics go, I don't usually run it in anything that isn't specified by the manufacturer and/or has run over 50,000 miles with regular oil.
