Yea had his license since thursday and it is totaled today. He's ok and so is everyone in the car he hit, took a big hit on his pride as well. Anyway the wrecker driver is a friend and he wants to buy it. So the question is whats it worth? It is a 3.0 v6 with a 5speed and it was pretty clean actually. I had just done the timing belt and water pump and ordered headers because the studs were broke on the exhaust manifolds. He wants the engine, but I think that the trans and transfer case and maybe the rear axle should have some value as well. Please shoot some numbers out as I will have to tell him something tomorrow. I didn't put this in the classified section because I am just trying to get a feel for what might happen. Thanks for any input.

For what it's worth....we totaled the wife's 2000 RAV4 (145k mi.) back in the fall. Damage looked a lot like what you have, but not quite as bad. They totaled it out for $7500, right at NADA value. Buyback on it was 1600 bucks. That's about 21.3% of book. YMMV, IMO, FWIW, etc

I have to agree with the Second Amendment being Homeland Security!! I don't think that an 88 would still be in the book, but if it was worth 2200 and we apply the 21% we get 462. I think that the engine is worth 300 and the rest of it even if he drained the oils and scrapped it would be at least another 300, and if you were smart about it you could probably sell a few parts I would imagine! So I think that 600 should be fair, No?

The real question is did he learn his lesson about doing nothing while driving, but driving? Glad he and everyone else is OK.

Well I went completely the other direction on this thing. We found a complete front end the same color for $250.00 so we took the chance and it came out pretty good!!! And yes Rattlecan he did learn his lesson! But you were right he slammed on the brakes and froze!! Anyway ended up pulling the engine so I fixed all of the exhaust manifold bolt holes, reinstalled with the headers. Had to pull the front end down to do upper and lower ball joints and a torn inner boot on the front axle. Repacked the wheel bearings and did the brakes while we were in there. Not running yet but getting close. Need an oil filter relocation kit.

Can't help with what's it worth, but if you decide to part it out I'll take the doors and/or the rear axles if they're disc brakes.

I hope u made him do most of the work and pay for the parts. This will be a great life lesson and something he can be proud of after he messed up.
