Old farmhouse and barn(((PICS ADDED)))

If I were you, I would probably disassemble the house myself. There is NO TELLING what you may find hidden in walls, behind mantles, etc.
and this X a thousand. The dismantling of this house in itself will be a real adventure.

metal detecting is a very boring spectator sport. I can tell you what you will find around this house. Lot's and lot's of trash. Zinc mason jar lids out the wazzu. Did I mention trash? Iron nails everywhere. There might be a coin spill from a child or a lost pocket book. A wheat penny once in a while. Costume jewelry. Might find a class ring or cheapy wedding band. Get visions of treasure jumping up and in your diggin pouch out of your heads. It's not that common. This was a workin farm and folks just didn't have the monies to to squirrel away in jars out in the yard. If something like that poped out,I'd be very surprised. Inside the house, there might be something hidden but the family I assure you has searched hard.

If the house is as old as you say there is a slight chance that it's a log cabin with siding over it. In the more rural areas cabins were cheap and common and turn of the century lap siding was put on them to modernize them

With all the talk of metal detecting...there's an old one laying on the bed in the old house. The head of it is dangling out the broken window. Maybe someone was looking for something...got mad and threw it at the window? I should have been a detective.

I'll ad pics when I find something interesting.

The old timer probably meant meadows mill, there out of wilkes and still in business. The mills would be great for parts for some one. If you find any cant hooks, log peaveys, pickeroons lying around or tools for the mills I would be interested. The saw mill wrench's bits and shanks could get you a easy $50 for a box if there one of the old style that are no longer made. Also log chains with hooks for dragging logs out of the woods. Might luck up and find a old cable winch, plainer, or edger sitting out in the woods. those things are usually easy to get working again after sitting for many years.
