So I have this old turd is my dad's and am using it a little. It starts and runs pretty good, but after it gets hot it slowly dies. You can isn't the throttle back and it will stay running longer, but if you keep it idled up, it cuts off. When you let it sit and cool down, it will start back up. What are some things to look for? It's a 69 model, gas engine. I was guessing the old voltage regulator, but don't know how to check.

Check the fuel filter. If it has a porous brass filter in a glass bowl try it with out it.

Pulled the glass bowl last night. It was full of crud. Looked to have a brass tube in there. Not sure if it was a filter or not. I may have a chance to check it out again this afternoon. Thanks guys

I like older tractors. Late 60 through mid 80's. I am real close and in want of a back hoe if you decide to part with it. Get it cleaned out and keep it serviced it'll last a long long time.

aaah what good machines the old fords are. got my backhoe running skills on one just like it
back in the early 70s. no ROPS no safety switches on anything and a gas burner to boot.
that being said i'd bout bet money on fuel system problems somewhere. coils will heat up and break
down too which can cause the same problem.
actually the first hoe i ran was a sherman mounted on a ford. about a 65 model.
if ya learn to run a 4 stick you can learn to run any of em.

I know my dad would part with it. The question is how much he would want to lose. He bought it at an auction and paid way too much, imo. I just need to dig this hole, and I'm good for it to disappear.
