Trying to sped as little as possible to hear this motor run,

Its in a 61 C60. Turns over but will not crank off ether/fuel poured in carb.

I was going to replace the points and plugs, etc. but napa only shows up to c40, if they are both a chevy 6, are all those parts the same?

My buddy keeps telling me to go electronic, but thats are more then what I want to spend.

My cost at Napa is $50.00 for points/condensor/cap/wires and plugs. Pertronix is $100.00 by it self. This truck is for sale, need to keep costs down.

You go me curious since NAPA didnt list the C60. So I went looking...

Seems the engine you have is a 261. A unique engine from the other chevy 6's, only used in the C60. I found some tune up info, but no part numbers.
Be aware of parts from other 6's crossing over since this engine seems to be very unique!

I recommend searching out bigger truck parts guys. Or some vintage chev truck forums (Stovebolt -- Old GM - GMC - Chevy Trucks! might be a good one) . This engine was never used in a car except some Canadian Pontiacs.

Not much help, but good luck!

Just clean the points real good and clean the cap, in less the points are melted together you should be able to clean them enough to get it to run. If it sat for a long time it may have a bad coil....

You can get the og petronix for $45 online...

Have you checked for spark yet? I'd start there first. If you don't have spark, then I'd look at filing the points to see if you can get them to work before trying to find replacements.

$50 for all those parts is cheap but I don't think you'll need them all just to get it running.

You may need a Dwell meter to adjust your dwell. I had a meter for my old points dizzy. used it once, got it running, then wised up and bought a DUI dizzy.

prior to the adjusting the dwell, I had the same issue you described. Thus the automotive industry moved out of the early 1900's technology and ditched points. :D

Its missing a couple plug wires and has one broken spark plug. A friend that knows what hes doing is going to help me. Thanks!

Mac, Rockauto is great, use it all the time, it only went up to c40, but it had the 261 listed, so I used that for the application for NAPA. We'll see what we get..lol

If the points will bolt in they will work or file old ones and set gap at .019 which works out to 30 degree dwell angle. I like to pull all plugs connect timing light. If you have spark timing light will flash then check timing. Cranking without plugs should give you oil pressure which is nice to have if engine has set a while. Look in carb and move throttle you should see a squirt of gas from accelerator pump. Then do a compression test. Sixes back in the day had about 130 psi but 90 to 100 is need to blow up gas with spark. I just got a Pontiac V8 running after sitting for 15 years. It had several 30 psi, a couple of 60's and one or two 100,s. I pulled off the valve covers and with the valves in the closed position I beat on the valve end of the rocker arm with a rubber mallet .Compression went 120 to 130. Put in cleaned plugs. Motor started and runs perfect. Oh yeah I cooked the plugs a bit with propane torch to burn out old oil and junk and a little preheat.

If you can find a junkyard HEI for that 6 I would do that. I swapped out the points & condensor on my Blazer's 307 years ago for cheap. Of course 8 cylinder HEI dizzys are much easier to find...
