I have a set of tires with a 2003 production date. They're practically brand new, 16/32 tread, new they were 18/32. Even wear, no dry rot, no sun damage. The jeep they will be going on will be 75% offroad the other 25% will be mostly to and from offroading location. Question is would you be concerned to drive these on the highway.

Agreed. Drive em. They will likely have other issues before they just blow out.

Might not be especially grippy, being 14 years after manufacture. Tire rubber ages a lot in 14 years. Probably can't be worse that whatever China is pumping out for cheap prices.

He never said what brand they were. They might be 14 year old Chinese tires

Update: Had them mounted, still no visible dry rot. Did a flex text with a forklift to see if they were going to rub and noticed when the back tire got all the weight on it some dry rotting started to appear. Don't have much in them so after one trip if they're not worth a shit or start to come apart, bon fire it is. Also I'll be keeping them off the road either way.

I did a long distance highway trip in my XJ, heavily loaded with camping gear, on pre-2000 BFG KOs. No issues, but I only did it once. You should be fine.

I was never impressed with the x terrains I had though...

FWIW...I never noticed minor dry rot hurting a tire. That's just the rubber (er... Nylon) on the outside of the tire. It doesnt hold the air or anything structural.

Just the "skin" on the tire
