ddidnt realy know where to put this?
im locked out of the garage for some reason

i have a micro 4000 that trips after about 3-4 mins of running even with the main breaker to the camper in OFF pos.

had the entire thing rebuilt by cummins/onan off 95 not long ago

any ideas? where to start?

its in a 38ft tailgator XT

Whats your definition of not to long ago? If less than a year Id start with a call to them.

Check the oil and water levels, I know it sounds lame but mine is a picky little bitc*, I was in Mi. last fall and it shut off and maybe a cup of water got it going again! Mines a 10,000 watt deisel in my coach and it's computer controlled and when it runs past a sceduled oil change, it shuts off! Not because of the hours, but because of the time for a change. I run mine for 2 hours under load every month, no more probs.

P S try it under a load with the breakers on and the AC on or something. does it have a AUTOMATIC setting? Mine also shuts off in 10 or 15 minutes if nothing is pulling electricity and cranks and runs if the AC thermostat tells it to or any thing else needs power.

Like Terry said they are designed to shut down if no load..not really designed to idle for hours on end, lots of bad things happen there.

Also is the engine shutting down or the output "breaker" tripping out

If its the output you need to check the wiring between the gen and the distribution...a pinch could degrade the insulation and under some heat vibration allow a short.

Our branch in Kenly (Where I assume you mean off 95 ) has some decent dudes, but their two experienced consumer gen techs have moved up to the industrial (my side) of the business the last few years so anything is possible.

I got a question, what year is the camper and what kind of controlls hav e you got to control the gen? I have three switches to control mine plus the master control with all the programming and auto settings, does yours have the auto settings?

im thinking probably the main breaker on the unit. with the main on the camper turned off the breaker on the unit still trips. soooo starting with the cheap stuff first .

ps its air cooled and oil level is fine
