My garage has windows on the door, like many. I like the light and seeing out, but not a fan of the visibility in.

any downside I might be overlooking to putting the shiny 1-way glass film over them? Does it attenuate the light on the inside substantially?

When it's dark outside, and you have the shop lights on, the one-way works the opposite way.

I just used a 1" mini-blind on mine (9-lite door).

If you don't mind sacrificing seeing out, I sprayed mine with rattle can window frosting. Lets plenty of light in but you cant see through it.

Well it's the same way w/ normal glass, you can see in at night w/ light on.
I'm not so worried about that, if the light's on, I'm in there, and 90% of the time the radio is on so doubtful anybody will be peaking in.
It's more for during the day or when nobody;s around, just so it's not easy for "curious eyes" to pear in.

This sounds a little creepy. Remind me to never use the bathroom at your house.
