My dad's caliper snapped off his infamous lemon '08 JKU while he was driving and sliced his rim like a can opener. I highly doubt his lifetime powertrain warranty will cover it.
I had something like that happen once, kid at the tire shop didn't torque down the lug nuts, wheel came loose on the highway, drum backing plate cut the rim in half, and the tire passed me on the interstate.....the chunks of aluminum took out the tires of cars in the north bound side of the divided highway.
Yup, it's a Boone Jeep. His has been plagued with problems since he brought it brand new, everything has been rusting off of it, parts breaking, its been pretty insane. He can leave it sitting for three months, fire it up, and find new things have broken while it was sitting still.
By comparison, my 2001 TJ was in Boone for ten years and looks almost brand new underneath. But I also crawl under it once a year or so with a wire brush and a rattle can of rustoleum.
I once bought a 78 CJ, from a Rutherdfordton car lot. It had stayed in Boone. Used on farm or something. Just a Pile of rust, but it ran, had PS, 6 cly., T-18 /Dana 20. I bought it for the running gear, & parted out what I could. Looked as bad or worse than these examples!
