Sooo... i just re-painted by exo roll cage (some underside spots were really thin and rusting already, plus some well, er, "used" spots!).
of course I did it w/ a rattle can :shaking:

... and apparently underestimated the amount of overspray... now have a nice thin layer of black on top of everything.... hood, winshield, doors... doh!

i've read that using a clay bar can get it nice and clean, then wax.
of course these are all posts from people with nice clean, shiny paint to begin with , I pretty much have a normal everyday layer of dust/grit etc undeneath the overspray... on paint that is already thin, dirty, scratched, and well-abused...

Any experience w/ this?

if the paint is factory paint, acetone won't touch it but it will make the spray paint like butter, wipe right off with a rag. but you need to soak it with acetone to be able to do that. I don't think it works as well on seasoned spray can paint. worth a shot if you've got some hanging around. xylol comes to mind too. straight blades on the glass FTW.

yes it is the factory paint - well more or less, it's had a solid 22 years of abuse and a few places(esp the hood) w/o any clear coat left.. many scratches... who knows if this thing has ever been waxed in its life, def not in the 8 years I've had it, lol... and the front fenders are Rustoleum Hammered spraypaint... about 9 month seasoned...

Had the same problem, wet sanded with some real fine grit paper and it did the trick. It did leave fine scratches, but I really didn't care.

if its fresh out of the spray can i have had success with wd40 on a rag. the overspray comes right off and dont harm the other paint

^^^^ none of this!! go to local parts place ((AutoZone) :fuck-you: and get a clay bar kit and go that route... much easier and wont harm paint at all......

Unf, not fresh... I did it Wed night, then went back Thurs night to peel off all the paper/tape etc.

I say scrap the whole thing and build a new project

Razor blade the glass, leave the rest. It'll blend in with the dirt and grime.

After 8 years, it's gonna take a little more than this to get me to ditch it...
And I've got a new project but it's coming reeeeaaaal slowly.

...although this has got me seriously thinking about just getting the sanders and re-painting the whole thing, been meaning to do that for a year now...
