Nearing the completiong of my YJ build Im starting to weight my options. YJ tons, 4.0 AW4 47 ltbs. Right now ive got 300 for it, im concerned it will not hold up the way I drive. By the time I do a 4:1 and HD outputs that will be another 1200. i have been thinking about a 203/203 doubler, due to strength and gearing. I havent found much info on this. Basically I want to get rid of the 300 for a doubler and use 2 strong cases. Any other options out there?

Since you're already considering a doubler and with the cost of that, I would think an atlas should be considered as well. Possibly try and find a used one.

You're everywhere, stalker :flipoff2:

You know I run a 203/205 doubler and I saw how hot and bothered you were getting when I was spanking Tellico in the snow but it's cool you don't have to be just like me.

Honestly, doublers are nice but the only thing they offer that the new atlas, stak, black box, klune V, etc. don't offer is a cheap price. Doublers are typically heavy. Especially 203/205s and 205/205s. The newer ones coming out now like the aluminum cases aren't as bad but they do take up space. Space can require you to modify links, modify crossmembers, move gas tanks, etc.

When it comes down to it, it all depends on how much your wallet can afford. If I had my choice I would have bought a klune V but I built my doubler and made my modifications for less than $800. That saved my $700 but cost me in weight and clearance.

Hope that helps. Btw, I asked you on pirate but are rolling out on the 26th with us?

What gearing do you have in your axles? I am thinking a 4.0 is going to struggle to spin 47" LTB's with only 4:1 low range unless you have really low axle gears. A black box or Klune-V in front of a 205 seems like a lot of bang for the buck and would give you a 5.44:1 double low range.

Wish I could come but the new rig wont be done yet. After all the freakin research I have done I may do a Black Box mated to a 203. Simple setup and chaper than an atlas or stak. Its only money:huggy:

In the last rig I had 4.0/Auto/513s and a stak 5.4:1. and 47s. In the new rig it has 5:38s, the 4.0 has no problem turning 47s ask orangecherokee:flipoff2:

i run a 203/205 in my buggy. the reality is that a quality doubler will cost very close to the same as an atlas if you compare apples to apples...yokes, shift rails mod, spline count etc. not to mention the time spent collecting parts. they are heavy and large.

i went atlas for my new build

I would worry less about the case and more about tons and 47's....keep plenty of spare shafts..chromo or not, you'll be blowing them up. If your running a chevy LP60, then I might really get worried about the R&P if you like to use the gas pedal. Go atlas you won't be dissappointed.

I disagree. If you're smart and resourceful there's no need to spend that much. I thought the point of the doubler was to save money while still getting the low range you want and gear selection. Granted if you pay for everything to be done for you then, yes I guess I could see them being close to the same but you should still come out ahead on a doubler vs. an aftermarket reducer.

I'm running a 231/300 doubler w/ 32 spline rear output. Lightweight, not super expensive, and plenty low gearing.

If you don't already have the 47's consider smaller tires, your axles will thank you.

A 60 with chromos and ctms/ 14 bolt with 47s will hold up with a 4.0.
