Opinions on Smittybilt XRC 8 Winch

Hope the xrc 10 hd is as good. Got one ordered from summit racing. Cheapest price I found. $611 shipping and all. Everybody else starting at $749. Now if it would only get here.

I've been pleased with what I have seen from them. I have always been a WARN man, but I have had two of the SBs, have on on the ZJ right now, and I have been happy with both of them.

I have been very pleased with my xrc8 with synthetic line. I got mine back in Janurary or February when 4wheelparts was running them on special for $450 shipped.

XRC8 Comp

I got a XRC8 with the synthetic line, fairlead, cover, and lifetime warranty ($50) shipped for $536 back in Feb. (4WD.COM). Works great. I have used it for recovery of my TJ and a couple of rocks and a couple of trucks with no issues. I think line speed is good. All of them are slow when they are loaded. Unloaded the XRC8 does around 37ft/min.

The issues I had were freespool and the cheap looking remote.

The freespool took another vehicle to drag it out. I dissasembled the planetary gear set (not bad) and cleaned and repacked with some good Lucas red bearing grease. I also replaced a small pin in the engage/disengage with the end of drill bit. Found this trick online. This fixed the freespool issue. Disengage and pull out by hand as expected.

As far as the remote - still cheap looking and feeling but does the job.

I also picked up an ARB 9000 snatch block (got it from ECG - Chase).

I bought a mount from AtoZ Fabrications. Great mount. Doesn't hangover the bumper at all. I run a stock bumper.
I had to do a small bit of grinding to the back side of my front hooks but nothing major. Clears swaybar and bolt holes line right up. Looks and works well.
