Maybe throw out there that every once in a while I keep him out of school to attend shooting events?

That's true in my house...my 9 yo little sister skipped 6 days during deer season, and probably will a couple more for Turkey. My 14 yo little bro wanted to go to a gun/knife show a few months back out of state...skipped that Friday and off they went. They have an alotted number of days they can miss each school year...use them or lose them. Of course, I wouldn't endorse that if they had poor grades.
