Optima Yellow Top dead after 6 years?

Should I accept that my $180 yellow top Optima battery is dead after 6 years? Granted the 1997 wrangler does not see much use any more and mostly sits in the garage so I took it to Advance Auto and they deemed it dead when it did not hold a charge after 24 hrs after charging.

Any suggestions on a replacement battery? I do have a 9000lb Warn winch that does get used when trail riding, so do I need to invest another $180 in a battery? Recommendations please .....

try wiring another standard non agm battery parallel to the optima....put the charger on the standard battery. Search recharging optimas on google. there are several write ups on it

Yeah it's dead. I got an AGM battery from O'reilly's. It's an East Penn battery. It's $60 cheaper than an optima.

You're lucky you got six years out of it. I couldn't get six months out of two of them. I've heard people getting better luck out of the Red-Tops, and supposedly the newer Optimas are worse than the original versions The battery Matt mentioned is a good battery. I picked up a Diehard Platinum 34/78-DT from Sears (made by the same company that makes the Odyssey PC-1500). It is still a 200+ dollar battery, but a four year warranty, and the ability to warranty it at any Sears makes it a decent choice. The side post strapping is sufficient enough to winch off of if you feel the need. With that said, I've ran a traditional battery and winched the daylights out of it, with little to no ill effect. I believe the new battery purchase for me is purely psychosomatic

Try turning the optima upside down over night then charge it.i haven't had any personal experience with it, but a guy who claimed to work for them on another forum said it works. Cheap enough to try.
