can an orbital be rebuilt? i have a trail gear orbital that ive have for a year now. only had one trail ride on it. the last time i was driving it in the yard, when the steering locks to one side (cant remember which way) the steering would stop like it was supposed to but the orbital would let the steering wheel keep rotating.

where could a rebuild kit be bought from?
i'm really hoping these are not throw away units.

thanks jeff. my google-r is slack today. i just typed in orbital and it was trying to sell me one.

so a hydrolic shop should have what i need. well now i got to find a hydrilic shop around me. good lord this lil town has NOTHING.

I would contact Trailgear. They may offer a rebuild kit or give you a manufacture contact to acquire one.

I wouldn't try and do this by sizing up O-rings and such. I work on hydraulics and we get redos in the shop b/c the owner was trying to keep from spending a dollar and ends up spending 100. Why do it right when you can do it twice.

From experience, I have done rebuilds on lift truck orbitals, BE VERY CAREFULL when rebuiling one, If it is not put back together corectly it can reverse and pin the steering wheel very quickly and will take youre fingers off.

Take it too someone who is experienced with them.

^^^^^^^ He's right ^^^^^^
If it isn't phased right it will pretty much become a motor instead of a valve as soon as the pump spins up. I've been inside a char-lynn valve a good bit but not trail gear. They have a pair of springs in them that let you turn the steering wheel slightly past where the cylinder hits full lock. That last little turn allows the fluid to bypass throught the ?spool? so you can't break parts or blow hydro lines. If that spring breaks I would guess that the steering wheel could keep spinning and intermittently bypassing the excess fluid.
