I get this kind of thing all the time, and have all my career in the car business. People seem to think you have some sort of gift that you have a responsibility to share with others or something.
When I worked at a dealership, we would get people all the time who would come tell us what symptoms they had so we'd tell them what might be wrong with their car, go to parts and buy the part, then come back to us and want to know how to install it. Or wanted us to stop one of the mechanics in the back and have them come up and talk to them. People pulled up to the shop daily, and went in to talk to mechanics about things like this.
I started building computers for awhile while I was there. Then everyone wanted to come ask me questions about that.
I'm a dealership vendor now, and do work for a bunch of dealerships in the area. And I get people that the dealers give my number to that don't want me to fix their issue, they want me to tell them what's wrong with it and what they can do to fix it.
I do a LOT for either really cheap or free. Go to a senior citizen's house to fix their car? If it's really easy, I'll either do it for free or very little. Have done that hundreds of times. Does it cost me money? Sure, but I figure most older folks probably paid it forward like I'm doing now, so hopefully I might see some payback later. Might not, but I'll always be on the right side of the ledger, that's for sure. And I do that for people "in the business" sometimes, because I might need something from them one day.
