looks ~sorta like the newer axles they are putting under the Medium Duty 4wd truck I've seen more of lately..

Looks like it would be easier to fit/package than a toploader ??

downsides besides the insane loss of ground clearance because of what is certainly a 12"+ ring gear?

There were 2.5 ton frontloaders like that, and older ones in GMC trucks

yeah i knew that there were GMC ones like this... but they werent removable third i dont think... and their center section looked to be alot bigger.... From the look of the pic though, i cant say that you would loose a ton of GC with it (the center doesnt seem to be much taller then the knuckles)

I do know that it looked to have air brakes on it.... but i figured that if u were putting discs on it, it wouldnt really matter....

i was mainly wondering if anyone could help out so that i could maybe see whether these would be worth getting? (might could get them cheap, but not close so i cant look at them)

MMM BEEFY!

I may be wrong but they look kinda like a set of marmon harrington axles that come under the big 4x4 asplund trucks, but for some reason im thinking i was told they are 5 tons. I know tthe marmon axles have a dropout third but i dont think they are airbrake, but again im not sure.

Have a look here... specifically the Front Drive Steer Axle. Looks like a strong possibility they're ArvinMeritor axles to me...

At first I though, break something and you'll find the disadvantage (as in you'd NEVER find parts in a JY)... OTOH, they seem to very well established, so NEW replacement parts should be available...

well i dunno, but ti said 2.5 ton on the listing for them.... I thought that they looked to be a Meritor axle... but when i went to their site, i couldnt find naything about them other then they make steering front axles

and i know that typically the front loading axles in this size have little to no GC, but this one doesnt seem to have that bog of a center section on it... then again the crates that these things are in are 100"x36"x36" but hte center section doesnt seem to be much if any bigger then the knuckles

Meritor/Rockwell made a 3 ton. Not certain, but it could be that. If its not that or another Meritor axle, the only other 2.5 axles I know of are GM... which that certainly is not.
