Is there an inexpensive way to upgrade the outputs? Or should I even bother? I would much rather the U joint on a drive shaft break than any other drive line part.

Right..... I was looking at those but was hoping not to have to spend that money. For the time being it looks like I will carry a spare out of this second case and build it a little bit at a time.

I would upgrade it. Or, have a second case and upgrade it as time and $$$ allows and swap it out on an afternoon once its built

I speak from experience.

The stock rear output WILL break before a 1310 u-joint in the rear shaft will.

I now have HD outputs front and rear, and 1350 joints in the rear shaft. This has held up to severe abuse....

Its definitely worth the money. My stock output grenaded when the rear took a bad hop under part throttle. I was running stock gears in the case with tons and 42s. The case i have now has HD outputs and 4:1 gears. I bought it used from tw89yj, and he beat the crap out of it, and ive had it for 3 years or so, and have beaten on it with no issues.

If you got yours from Travis, then yes I'm sure it has been beat pretty good

my D300 has 4:1 and HD outputs front and rear and I run 1410 joints, no failures yet on the D300 in the last year. I did manage to break a front joint at The Flats and twisted the rear driveshaft tube into 2 pieces. The D300 HD outputs held with the LQ4, tons, and 47"LTBs

not only will the original ouput break, but sometimes take the case with it. so says the 3 sets of D300 guts (minus the cases) laying in my shop. I broke 3 cases this way before I upgraded. A case is hard to find when you need it.

I learned the hard way.... Upgrade the output at a minimum. The front if you can swing it.. I broke 2x each time wasn't anything spectacular and each wrecking an otherwise nice trip.

Ok so I have two cases and can bring spare outputs. I dont have a heavy foot and only plan to run 37's and stock U joints for the time being. I will bring spare outputs for now and take it easy.

On the upgrade. Who's upgrade kits are yall running and how do you like them? Outputs and 4:1 kits.

im speaking from my own experience, ive not had any issues from my 300. It is bone stock. I do want to upgrade the output just havent done it yet. My rig is 4200 lbs, and running a 360 t18 and one tons geared 456 turning 42s. I have beat on this thing pretty hard and have broken many a 1310 ujoint, but i carry spares. Joints are cheap as so am i. Id say if you are doing 4.1 then most def upgrade the outputs but so far from what you are saying i wouldnt worry about it on 37s.

Im not sure what my final weight will be but as of now, I intend to put this to use with a 4bt and an NP435 in a YJ. I also have an NP205 t case I could use instead of the D 300. Any advantages or disadvantages there?

is the 205 already adapted for the 435? if so id rock it and do a doubler with the 300 later

Yes, the 205 and the 435 are already together. The problem will be in the over all length. The adapter between the two is factory ford and is 6 to 8 inches long. I would also have to get a driver drop axle. The real question is, which will be the better case to use in the long run?
