I have no idea where to start diagnosing this POS, but out home stove isnt working. Its a Maytag, only about 6 years old, dont know much more than that (builders special, came with the new house). The stovetop is working fine, but the oven won't heat up past 225deg. The burner elements are not glowing red at all.

depending on the unit you have there is a heat control switch before the coils.. may look like a little black relay with wires going in and going back out to the coil. i had the same thing happen. i would try that first.

Maytag Precision Touch Control 500 Electric Smoothtop
Model MER5755QAW

I'd say the the lower burner element is shot, it looks like a wet noodle, even got some splits on the one side. Maybe its never been right, wife always complained it took forever to preheat.

Now off to google, see if I can find how much a replacement will cost.

Got a multimeter? You should be able to read resistance on the element. It'll either have some resistive value or it'll be open. Open = bad.

I'd bet it's either what woodpd said (which sounds like a thermostat?) or the thermostat, but I'm no appliance repair man.

You could always just buy my refrigerator. Ovens are over-rated. :D

yeah, open circuit thru the lower element, 15.5 ohms on the broiler element. I googled the model number, found an appliance forum, got the burner p/n, if I'm lucky amazon.com will have it here by Friday.
These things are pretty low tech, just be careful of sheetmetal edges. I now have bandaids on both thumbs :bounce2:
