so i guess the plan as of now is to put in a new filter/ fluid. the thing that gets me is that i feel this overheating problem started happening almost over night. in as little as ten miles the the sucker gets over 250F and this is in 40degree weather and with a extra big trans cooler. i guess we'll see what happens tomorrow when i put the filter in. if any of this sounds familiar and you have better advice as to whats going on let me know.

other fun facts
the fluid looks pretty good ive replaced it a couple times w/ the filter
theres and estimated 130k on the AW4
im running 35s w/ 4.56s
and i have bypassed the radiator

thanks guys

r u sure that the trans line are running into the additional trans cooler the correct way?

Don't bypass the radiator, run both the external and internal coolers. X2 on checking the correct flow direction.

how is there a right and wrong way, the cooler is just some tubes with fins. ive had the cooler for a while, before the overheating. also i had the radiator by passed before the over heating....

many of the aftermarket coolers have a check valve to prevent reverse (positive head) pressure if you install it backwards you get inadequate or no flow.

What are you using to determine fluid temp?
Has gauge been checked?
ATF should not get to 250 and still look all bright red and shiny....

make sure your guage is correct. better yet, unhook it, i've discovered that ignorance can be bliss:driver:

you'd be surprised how many guys don't run a trans guage on their buggies.
