getting ready to paint my cj-7, its going be split duty on the trail and street, and just wondering what should a decent paint job cost? shouldn't be much body work 2-3 hours, also going to paint the same color it is now. the reason i ask is have two totaly different quotes. one is 600 and the other is 1100, and i made sure to tell both places the purpose of my jeep and the quality job i was looking for.

alot of price difference can be material cost some places use good stuff and other places use not so good stuff, clearcoat with no uv protectant against fading and such. BUt with a difference like that it sounds like somebody quoted you crap and somebody quoted you a rather decent job. I wouldn't paint a jeep for 600 bucks

Try macco. I did and I'm happy with the results. Then again its a 16 year old trail/dd driver. Not a show car. Cost me almost four hundred with no body work.no runs or drips looks great after two years. I got it painted a diffrent color so the door jams were diffrent. I sprayed them with black at a later time.

I would say th 1100 is about correct ask them what type of paint they use. Just for example I just painted my dodge Dually http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26948 and I use Nason paint which is not the top of the line But I use Nason's best paint. it cost me around $900 for just the paint and that was after pulling some strings at the paint Store. I would think that for the 1100 you should get a meduim quality BC/CC Like what I did on my dodge.

I wanted to use the top of the line PPG but it was going to cost me 1500-1700 just for the paint

You can buy a compressor, an air dryer, an HVLP gun, and a gallon of primer and color from TSC for about $600. Do it yourself and have all of the tools, not mention 2/3 of a gallon of each paint, to keep afterwards.

Just a suggestion.

My take...

You cant beat a nice, well done paint job.

But....

If yer gonna take it in the woods, its gonna get scratched and dented. I would paint it cheap and with a type and color of paint thats easy to spot touch up...if ya wanna keep it looking...uhhh...painted! LOL!
