Went to URE on Friday and had a blast!
It doesnt look as tho they filled in any of the ruts or mud holes over the winter.
The big mud hole on Falls Dam is just that...BIG.... And getting deeper every week.
The guard rail on Daniel was a life saver... Buddy told me to hug the right side as we were going up... I dont think he meant for me to rub along the guardrail, but the ruts pushed me into it.
My passenger fender got stuck underneath the rail and I decided the only way ot go was forward...
SOoooooooooo... When you go past the guardrail, check for the orange paint on the under side and think of me....
(THAT is why my CJ is painted rattle can orange.... I can fix the damage in about 30 mins.... however, my "Crayola" sticker on the passenger side now says "ayola"... Oh well, such is life.

got any pic's I was also there & a buddy in a red xj gave that guard rail a little kiss also but we didn't get a pic of it

I like the idea of a guardrail on Danial, it is a comfort feeling(I'm assuming right before you need to do a 3 point turn, or after) then again it sucks b/c it will not be AS scary since I have a slight fear of heights

It's on the last R/H turn before the switchback

same guardrail that was there last season or did they add another?

ps- rattle can paint jobs.... the best :)

it's new

Went to the Gulches with a very sharp Bronco yester day and I thought he was gonna cry when he crushed the rear q panal in. I would of .

Is the guardrail right at the top of the ledge?

I wish there was one there....had to pry the seat out last year.

Gary (OBXfisherman) just kinda laid a hand on the hood to keep me from going over.

Guardrail...Daniel.... I haven't been since last April (but it was raining) and I didn't feel like I needed a guardrail. I'll have to go check this out.

I have never needed a guardrail on Daniel. I think they put one up to more or less block off the illegal bypass that had gotten pretty rutted out. I seem to remember a thread on here somewhere about it. If we are talking about the same guardrail anyway. I have not been yet this year.

I havent seen the guardrail yet, but I'm pretty sure I know where it is, at the top of the illegal bypass at the first switchback.
Last summer, the illegal bypass was pretty rutted and washed out. I stayed right when trying to bump up the ledge and my right front dropped in the washout. My brother inlaw was riding shotgun; he is not a frequent offroader, and it left him staring straight down. He asked if we were gonna be OK, I gave him a nonchalant "I hope so ", then he asks if I mind if he bails out. He was already fumbling with the seat belt trying to get his arse to flat ground :huggy:

Yep...same spot...bounced back off a rock and the right rear slid off the washout.

So... what your saying is the power steering was working OK, but you just forgot how to drive (steer away from immovable objects)? :flipoff2:

yeah, pretty much.
Wouldnt have been as bad if I hadnt listened to my "friends" that told me to stay to the right...

No pics, sorry, I got about 2 feet of air under the drivers front tire too... No pics.. DAMN

Oh well, I guess we'll try a different line next time

There's some K5 paint on there somewhere. That rut put me right into the guard rail and put my left front tire about 4' in the air when my back right tire dropped into that rut.

The guardrail is at the top of the illegal bypass on the last switchback just before the 3-point turn...
right here. old pic.

I did the same thing.... My left front tire was higher than I have ever seen it... The wife sucked up some of the passenger seat cushion, but after we were up and over she was cheering.... I'm also not used to having TREAD on my tires and torque in the engine.... I think I could get used to the combination... Now she is asking about a rear locker..... Damn.. "OK sweetie, if you think that is a good idea!"

Weird, I don't get air under my tires there BECAUSE I have IFS? Of course I don't have the strength or sexiness of a SFA either.

Fixed it for ya

basically by definition IFS will keep tire contact better
