I’m going to be doing some metal projects around the house. I’m going to buy a HVLP electric sprayer. What is the best paint to run through it? What’s going to last? Rustolem doesn’t seem to cut it.

I don't know if they offer it in anything other than a spray can, but the Rustoleum universal paint/primer in one is probably the best and longest lasting spray paint I've ever used. No lie. Got a good 3 years on the frame rails of my truck and the coilover towers and has held up amazingly.

They sell it in regular gallon, quart and pint cans at Lowes.

3 years seems low. I was hoping to find a 2 part paint. But I’m not even sure where to start my search.

Paints only as good as your prep. I'm not much for prep so my stuff needs touch-up every once in a while. My buddy on the other had gets his projects clean enough too eat off and his paint jobs last much much longer.

It aint cheap but it's good. And its only made by 1 person in the world and he lives in Greensboro.

That's just because that's the length of time it's been on there...it'll be longer in a few years.

Basically, I was saying it's been on there 3 years so far. No touch ups, no chipping, no flaking, nothing...just some tough ass paint.

Ive had good luck with Sher Kem from Sherwin Williams. It's basically tractor paint. Hold up well and doesn't fade much. Dries relatively fast, but takes 2 weeks to cure. Price is pretty reasonable too.

i've done some rustoleum and mixed it with hardener and thinned it down some. Made it dry much harder and faster.

Rustoleum in the can isn't too bad.

I too am looking to get into some hvlp painting probably a purple gun from harbor freight.
