i may be buying a vehicle that will need a paint job. doesn't have to be anything special. wondering if anyone here does side work in the raleigh area? if not, any reccomendations of one el cheapo shop over the other (peach, maaco, etc.)?

as for peach and maaco, they're dirty and you'll get dust in the paint, but as for adhesion, that can be controlled by prep. The more prep you do, the better they do. When I did the CJ, Peach seemed to be less stuck on corporate rules, and more likely to work with you. YMMV, and I've got spots peeling on the hood where the (my) prep wasn't great, so what do I know.

Definately try to do as much prep as you can. A guy I know recently had his XJ painted at Peach. It looks good from a few feet away, but up close you can see runny spots, paint on the trim and places where the adhesive from emblems was not sanded off ("4x4" and "Jeep" are still visible under the new paint).

If you want to bring it to HKY then I can hook you up

yeah, i've def. got you in mind... not sure when i'd have a chance to get up there though is the thing. i'm gonna drop you a pm.

Tell ya what.. for as shitty of a job as I'm doing, and the material cost... I'm fawking close to bringing the body panels to one of those places and letting them dirty up their booths.

Painting sucks donkey balls.
