In the next few weeks I am going to start painting my ZJ, and I wanted to get everyone's opinion on some things first.

Do i need to strip all of the old paint and get it down to the primer? Or do I just need to get all of the flaking paint off? What about sanding, what grit should I use for prep before the primer?

This is my first try at painting a car, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You will want to get any loose and peeling paint off. Then sand it smooth. They you want to sand the whole vehicle lightly with 600 grit to give the new paint some tooth to adhear to. They you can spray it. You wont need to prime it unless you are changing the color or you sand through to bare metal.

Maco?

Yeah I thought about them, and I went to go get an estimate, and the cheapest they could do it was for around $400, and I think I can do it myself for no more than $200
