When someone refers to a panhard bar, are they referring to a trac bar? Are they one in the same?

In music, left to right movement in the speakers is called stereo pan. When I used to work live sound we'd talk about panning certain instruments or performers "hard right" or "hard left" talking about putting all the signal on one side or the other.
I always thought a panhard rod was called that 'cause it kept the axle from moving side to side, not the name of the company that came up with the linkage... Learn something new every day.
