Run an NP203, switch to locking hubs on the front axle. You can get 2wd by running in 4-Hi Loc with the front hubs unlocked. Will not save much for fuel since the front driveline will still be spinning, however. Probably not the best for the diff unit in the transfer case but it would get the job done.

Thought of that but im wanting shift on the fly capability like my select trac system in my jeep it has 2wd 4 part time 4 fulltime and 4 low

Biggest question....why? You could always just run a normal part time case with front drive slugs. No hubs to lock and it's always ready to go. Personally, I hate my front drive line turning if it doesn't need to. Wears out u-joints, driveshafts, inner spindle bearings, etc.

Besides...if you're towing and you get stuck, most of the time, you're just stuck and 4wd won't help much at all. It sort of sounds like you're planning for a "what if" situation.

You're basically limited to an NP203, NP205, NP208, or NP241 for passenger drop and using a Chevy transmission/output shaft. At least without doing some machining and still keeping a cable driven speedo, provided you still use a cable drive.

I do a lot of cross country trips towing and this winter having the 4 full time in my jeep was nice in the snow cause i didnt have to think about going to 2wd when there would be dry patches
And towing the backhoe was interesting cause i had to keep it in 2wd most of the time
Thats why i want the true 2wd option so everyday i can run 2wd
But when in snow on the hwy i can run full time and still have 4parttime for muddy trails and what not

I currently have a 205 and shifting those on the fly usually ends with a gut wrenching sound

Im building this rig for hauling and traveling and i do alot of trips to cali oregon and washington during the wintertime to see family

If shifting your 205 makes a lot of noise then something isn't right. I have a 205 in 2 trucks and can shift from 2h to 4h and back on the fly with no problems.

No offense but that sounds like an operator issue.
Ive had probably 10 rigs with 205s over the years...All would shift on the fly when not in a bind silently. If you try to shift while the back tires are already spinning (I.E. Tire speed doesnt match vehicle speed then is could MAYBE see it.)

GM made some AWD, 2, 4hi, 4 lo xcases but were driver drop..you could always flip one I suppose.
