Does anyone around Raleigh repair Penn reels? I have a 7500SS spinning reel that needs some attention before a hatteras trip. I went to Hills and they no longer service reels.

Thanks,

Nope, but I have a buddy who is a district rep for Pure Fishing. If you want to grab a below retail Garcia before your trip I can get you hooked up. I'll ask him about getting a penn fixed too.

When are you heading to Hatteras? We'll be there the last week of this month near Salvo, bringin the boat and hoping to find some trout in the sound.

We are headed down on the 20th and staying until the 23rd. I am sending the penn to frisco rod and gun and will pick it up when I get there. I would like to know about the abu rep. I would another spinning reel similiar in size to my penn 7500 ss. I would like to have two lines in the water at all times if possible. We are staying near ramp 55 (at the end of hatteras).

Thanks,

I've taken apart all my Penn reels. Not that difficult. Just keep your work area clean and clean all the parts as you reasseble. Don;t use brake kleen to degrease anyhting with plastic, it will destroy it. Frisco Rod & Gun should take good care of you. Red Drum Tackle is where I got the replacement part for my reel and also got new line put on them. Good luck, tight lines!!!

Sorry to hijack this thread, but you mentioned Hills in Raleigh.

I have heard of them but have no idea where to find them. I tried looking on the web but couldn't come up with anything.

I was told that they have reloading supplies and I'll love to find them if they still do. Can anyone tell me where they are, or what they are near?

Thanks...

Red Drum Tackle is great.. I love that place...

Note to self: figure out weekend to go up there

Hills is on capital blvd on the way out of raleigh. When leaving raleigh, go over a bridge that curves left and goes down, start looking for Hills on the right. It is right past a car wash. If you get to Bobby Murray Chevorlet you have gone to far. Hills is a great place but they are proud of their merchandise price wise. I think they have been in business 25 plus years. I remember driving up with my dad (from Selma - Johnston County) back in the 80s to go to Hills.

Chuck keeps me in tackle. Works out pretty good. I sent ya a pm with his number there uzi. He might even do some trading for Toyota parts. :flipoff2:

BTW, grab some 1/4 oz jig heads and some Gulp! white saltwater jig bodies, I was beating up on puppy drum and flat fish in the pamlico this past weekend. Great fun on 6lb test ultralight spin tackle.

We are heading down to Salvo the 28th, let me know whats hitting for you and what they are hitting. My wife is a redhead and a little impaitent. I dont want her pulling out the dynamite. :lol:That and I get to float the old 21 dixie across from Bath Sunday morning, thats oughtta be a fun ride.

Hey Ratman. I'm emailing with someone at Pure Fishing now about my Abu Bait Caster. I'd never heard of them before and now with in a couple days I hear the name again. kinda funny. Are they around the NC area? or national/global?

We fished hatteras last weekend and I took my reels apart too (5 penn reels) I have done it like that since i have owned them. It is not hard. there are a few writeups on how to and how not to do it on that little thing called the internet. good luck

National. The more or less own garcia stateside. You want a sweet bait caster? Get a abu "trophy", super smooth and strong. I really want a morun but they go for about 500 bucks now, smoothest reel I've ever seen. The trophy is close, real close. Pure Fishing also handles berkley, fenwick, the gulp! line of bait (good stuff btw), mitchell and a few others. theres a new for 06 salt rod by berkley that is super sweet, I'm getting a 8 footer before my hatteras run to try out.

I've got a couple older penn #9's I use that are around 20 years old, nice reels but damn they are pricey now. LOL

All of my stuff is Freshwater. Mainly Trout (fly and Spin), Freshwater Bait cast. Mostly Abu, some Quantum, Orvis, St.Croix and Fenwick. I got an Abu 6000 on a fenwick Stick that could go Salt. But I don't make it out to the Coast very much.

Mine is a mix, couple old penns, old abu 6500c syncro (neat drag system on that one) a few saltwater abu spinners, a couple mitchell 300's, one is as old as I am, a quantum I despise and a couple bass rods with abu bait casters on 'em. The rods are from everyone but the fenwicks are my favorites. The flyrod is a 9' berkley and a old school shakespere manual reel. The rod is probaly about had it. :shaking: I even have a old flueger bait caster on a stainless rod I found at a yard sale 20 years ago. I bought it because the engraving on the reel is just super cool. At the same time I bought a mitchell 300 and a penn #9 NIB from the early 60's.

Just realises, this is a nice job of hijacking a thread. LOL
