I took the family down to Florida for vacation last week. On the first day we stop in Sarasota at a busy marina for lunch. I come back to the truck and someone had cut the lock on my hitch rack and stole my 2 month old mountain bike.
I really hate people.
Called the insurance company to see if it was covered under my auto or homeowners. They said since it wasn't an auto accident it would go under my homeowners. The value of the bike is only about $300 more than my deductible so I could file a claim for a couple hundred bucks and then have my rate go up for years. No thanks....
I hate insurance companies too.

Rates arnt suppost to go up from theft if you insurance company does, they just suck. My farm bureau didn't go up a penny when my Heep got ransacked

Where I live FB has raised everybodies deductible to $1000 per claim on homeowners and prorated your roofing due to the age.In the 18 years weve been married weve claimed less than $2000 on home owners. The reason for the increase was that it would save their customers $50 a year on ins.

My rates just went up 17% with Allstate. I called and they said it wasn't because of the claim for my kitchen flood. It went up because of all the claims they have had to pay out for at the beach. Fuck that.

My point being, they will raise your rates for anything and everything.

i work in claims. your insurance rate isnt going to go up if they pay out $300 on a theft claim. if you file 4 or 5 stolen bike claims a year, then yeah, they are going to go up or you're getting cancelled. you can thank your homeowners rates going up from hurricane sandy, like blaze said.

the main cause of the rate increases is people filing fraudulent claims. last statistic i heard was that 35% of claims filed in NC were fraudulent.

my wife and i have had our rates go up every year as well and we've never filed a claim.
