So, been in the Philippines about a year now. We will depart for the US in a few weeks. First time I have been here this long since the military.
Have enjoyed looking under the hood of many of the new vehicles sold here. A majority of all the breeds have 4 cylinder turbo diesels with a 5 speed manual transmission. Many have an automatic transmission option. The 4Runner is badged as a Fortuner. Often the mall display trucks, with 4WD and big tires, have a functional snorkel on the passengers side and
a majority of the trucks are 4 door.
India's Mahindra vehicles, as their design and production advances, is going to radically affect or even suppress sales
of the current name brands due to their extremely low pricing. Must note the small to mid size town I am currently in has a
Mahindra dealership but not on the same scale as the Toyota facility. Recently, I have sat in one of their 4-door, 5 speed, 2wd trucks as well as one of their economy 4 door cars. Very impressive build quality. The representative agreed that production is just ramping up but down the road the trucks will be available with 4wd and automatic transmissions. I believe the only engines available so far are turbo diesel. I suspect the US will see these in the future, maybe at the Mahindra tractor dealers.....ha ha.
