There's a difference between pro glass and consumer glass, but not necessarily between Nikon and Canon. Some pros shoot Nikon, some shoot Canon, some shoot Sony. Some switch back and forth every few years. There are fan boys on both sides, but these guys zoom down to the pixel level in a 24mp image and argue about how wide the chromatic aberrations are. We have all these great, cheap zooms available, that are all hugely superior to the stuff that was made a few years ago, but all these guys want to talk about is how this one thing is marginally better to this other thing, in a way that matters to no one except the score keepers. Its all kind of ridiculous.

I mean, I don't know what Ricky Berry is carrying today, but I know he used to shoot magazine work with a plastic kit lens and camera body that probably cost five or six hundred bucks brand new. Snappy got some great shots at the ECORS races with a 3000 and 18-55 that he bought used for a couple hundred bucks.

I have a few pro lenses, and they're fucking nice. They're sturdy, they're fast, they have buttery smooth bokeh, but they don't make you a better photographer. The guy behind the lens matters more.
 
you'd be surprised. check out Scott Kelby and some of his work. He took a piss poor shot of the Japan coastline and after he worked his magic it was a night and day difference. I'm not saying he's ignorant but that you can make almost anything look legit.

You mean the pro photographer who makes a living teaching people how to use Photoshop?

Doesn't it seem like he might be a bit... uh... self-interested in showing you the amazing things he can do with PS?
