I'm going to pick up a 1980 Toyota 4X4 next weekend. It has the 22R motor in it with an L52 transmission. It runs/drives good. I've never owned a toyota before but he said the only thing wrong with it is a common problem on toyota's which is something about a rear hanger on the spring cracking or something like that I can't remember exactly what he said. Is this a major problem and how can it be fixed? I'm going to be using it as a daily driver. How reliable are these trucks? Also, how do they do on the trails? Appreciate the help, thanks!

Extremely reliable and wheel better than a stock jeep by far. not too sure about the rear spring hanger, but check the frame along side the gas tank for rust.

You'll be fine for DD.
Nor sure what could be meant on the rear hangar, except maybe that the forward end hangar where it attaches to the frame may be cracked? That's not a common problem that I know ofthough.
When you pick it up, take a digi cam with you. Get him to point it out to you and snap a pic. Thwn when you get home upload the pic on here so we can see it, in the "General Tech" section - chances are pretty good that somebody here will know exactly how to deal with whatever the issue is.

Talking pretty big huh. A stock cherokee will follow a stock yota all day...but no need to get that started up.

As for your new purchase. take a hammer and check all the rear frame section. Sounds like a little plating and repair near the hanger and youll be fine. rust through right at the hanger is very common. Just check it all close or you could easily have a pretty truck thats rotten as hell underneath:beer:

Key word is "follow" :flipoff2: lol
Key difference to me is, esp for a first vehicle, you can take apart just about teh whole damn truck with at most about 4-5 different size wrenches. That Chee's gonna require a whole assorted set and a lot more profanity finidng the right one for the job. But we digress...

two each his own. You were just use to working on the yota and knowing your way around it. Dont take it out on the jeep by saying it was a pain haha

Will do, thanks! I'm excited to go pick this truck up! Maybe now I can actually come and ride with some of you guys

:
"Follow" because the toyota will be pulling the broken jeep up the hill...:flipoff2:At least he won't need a lift to put 31 inch tires on it. Sorry, but I've wheeled both and a stock jeep scared the pee out of me on mild roads and drug the fuel tank and transfer case on everything!
