Gotta weird one here hoping for a clue from someone.

I am trying to copy files from a laptop supplied by work onto my home desktop via an external HD.

I have done this plenty of times successfully in the past and in fact maintain a mirror on my home desktop of my laptop files "just in case".

Well now I have a particular folder full of files (on topic they are all ECORS related) that I am trying to get onto the home PC.
1 - All files are fine and open without incident on the laptop.
2 - All files copy without trouble to the external
3 - I can open all the files on the external from the laptop
4 - I can not open or copy the files to the home PC.
I get the following errors:
All .pdf file types "Can not open access is denied"
all .doc file types "The document name or path is invalid"
all .xls file types "Cannot access read only documents

WTH???

Sounds like the mirroring software has the files in use somehow and it is preventing access to them.

Disable the mirroring temporarily and see what happens.

I dont actually use the on board mirroring software, because the work laptop doesnt allow me to add any software to it. So, I just manually copy paste

nevermind...got it

... and then?

<-- Guessing ownership/permission problems

pretty damn close Shawn

apparently for whatever reason anything placed in the my docs folder gets encrypted automagically by this pos beast...

Well I never store anything in my docs, but my personal stuff Ive been putting there for ease...well once I went in and unencrypted them then you could open them all...however i had to plug the external up to the laptop to be able to unencrypt..weird but its fixed
