Pisgah Forest - Murder..... WTF ??

& people wonder why I carry my gun when I go out to wheel & camp alone
 
I grew up not far from there

also I have fly fished the Davidson river in that area for years, and also hunted in the same area for years

kinda made my skin crawl when I heard about this

The area in which this happened is super nice, and it is a shame things like this have to happen
 
I too fish there all too often...but I rarely am without my companion....
 
Several years ago, I think somewhere around '92 to '95, I was spending a few days doing some camping and hiking, alone. When I got home, saw on TV that someone was murdered at one of the parking areas at linville falls. I was one of only a couple of cars where I was parked overnight (at linville falls). I didn't waste any time calling the sheriff up there so they'd know it wasn't me or my car they were looking for. Never got called back, interviewed, etc.
 
I wonder who made the failed 911 call the next day? I have spent many days fishing near where that happened. Now I know to keep the option of dailing 1911 as well as 911.

This really pisses me off for a handfull of reasons. One of which, My wife and I have went hiking in this area twice this month. I know if she heard about this I would never hear the end of it and would probably have a hard time getting her to go back, though I'm sure it's a random incident that just shows crime can show up anywhere.

Its a damn shame someone can live such long life and it be ended like that. Just another reason I would like to see public hangings brought back.
 
We were camping out in Linville Gorge and found a tarp wrapped around something about 30 feet below us on a ledge. We couldnt figure out how to get down there, and after throwing a few rocks at it, decided it was just a tarp..

Apparently its pretty common for people to take stolen cars up to the Gorge and ditch them in the parking lots, where most cars sit for a few days anyways with people camping and all that.
