Pit bulls kill horse

That is a very ignorant statement. I work at WHS and she WAS the sweetest dog..would crawl in your lap and lick your face til you got up. Fortunately she did get adopted by a guy from Greensville or something. Do not judge a dog by its breed. Most Pit bulls are quoted as being aggressive because of inbreeding (big F-you to the watauga dogfighters, I have countless stories about them turning pits in because they wouldn't fight or breed) and improper socialization from a young age.
I have a Pit/Lab mix that is not aggressive, her biggest concern is that because Pits were bred as "gladiator" dogs, she usually won't back down if there's a confrontation. It IS the owners' responsibility to know their dog's actions and temperments around people/other animals.

Not really ignorant. I wouldn't have adopted her because I personally would not be comfortable with a Pit bull or a rottweiler. What kind of dog owner would I be if I was not 100 comfortable with my dog? After all, you lead the dog, not the other way around.

Pit bull owners can be so blind. There are so many reports of these properly raised "loving" pit bulls mauling kids; many of whom are family members. Will it happen to you? I sincerely hope not. I can guarantee it won't happen to me though.

Still, it reminds me of buying the car with the worst reliability rating ever and thinking it's never going to break down because you maintain it properly. Some things are out of your control.

Siegfried and Roy proved that tigers are safe if properly raised. Err...Well, maybe not.

This again really ugh!!
A Dog is a Dog, it has teeth it will bite if not taught not too.
No matter the breed or color or size.
If you raise a Child and you do not teach him right from wrong.
The child will do wrong,
It goes for any Domesticated Animal on the plant.
I have owned allot of animals in the past as well as now, Some will bite some will not.
THEY are animals just like humans they make mistakes ..

Thats exactly what I was saying on page 1, glad to see Im not the only one who feels that way.

Wow I am surprised at how many people swallow the line the liberal media vomits out on a regular basis. I have been around dogs of every shape size and breed for my whole live. I have owned Shepherds, Rotts, Pitts, Jack Russel's. Great Pyrenees, and mutts of every type. The most aggressive dogs I have ever met were Chihuahuas. Why don't they make the news - they don't do much damage. The most viscous dog I ever met was a white German Shepard. The Sweetest dog I ever met was Rott. the best dog I ever owned was a pitt. Dogs are like people everyone is different.

Do you really think it would make the news if a tea cup poodle attacked a horse. No The media likes to over-sensationalize everything. A dog bites someone it was a brutal attack. A man hit a camera mans camera and it was a beating ( happened yesterday).

Since few people have the common sense to form their own opinions what ever the media says is gospel. Since the media is liberal by and large people follow the liberal line and that is why there are idiots trying to pass breed specific legislation against dogs like pits and rotts. Funny thi8ngis I have a dog that was bred to kill mountain lions and bear in France while guarding sheep. She is a Great Pyrenees. She could kill a Pitt bull without breaking a sweat.

Pitts get their bad name from the fact that people get them and treat them mean then get shocked when they are violent.

Agreed
As some of yall know, (I know Tim knows) I was attacked by a rotty as a kid, long story but its still the only breed of dog Ill ever own. Great dogs. My family was on rott rescue list when I was a kid, we rescued a bad one.

This isn't a case of bad breeds, or bad dogs, bad owners make bad dogs, like bad parents make bad kids.

Tim, you should meet Brandi's pits, she breeds them, has a few adults and they are some of the best dogs Ive ever been around.
agreed
Pits can be good, loving pets... but trusting an unknown dog of any breed, especially in a rescue situation, is a big mistake.
adreed
I disagree

Man either you are equating having friends who owned with actually owning, or have owned around a dozen dogs at a time, or have had really bad life expectancy of your dogs, or you are full of shit.
Lets recap your post
(note the "s" means plural to give you the beneift of the doubt I will assume 2 of each)
Shepherds (avg. life expectancy 13 years)
Rotts (10 years)
Pitts (12 years)
Jack Russel (15 years)
Great Pyrenees (8 years)
and mutts of every type (lets say you only had 1 mutt for 5 years doesnt qualify as every type and size but what the hay)

You got 91 years of dog there.....thats with 1 mutt.
Lets say he lived 10 years...and you had say 5 mutts then you got 140 dog years....

GPs were bred to protect sheep and scare off mtn lion not kill and that was a century or two ago...not two generations ago when Lamar and Mustafa thought the baddest dog on the block was the thing to have...

Man I used to have a ridge back....it was bred to hunt lion in the 1600s....sure was a ferocious beast all 90 lbs of him....

Rhodesian Ridgeback.. Good lookin dog! I dont see how that can hunt a lion though!

Are you actually dumb enough to think that I only the dogs sequentially. Some of those dogs did not live out their full live expectancy, others were given away, three (not listed my first post) Keshounds (SP?) were stolen. I have had several at once. Right now I have three. I also have 2 rats, 2 cats and 4 fish. Oh and 6 GP/ Shepard mix puppies.

And A GP was bred to kill lion and bear when they threaten the flock. And for the record they have been doing it ever since. Just about 6 months ago in TN a GP fought and killed a medium sized black bear. She got her side tore up to where you could see her right lung, but after being taken by volunteers to a vet hospital in Raleigh she is back at work with her flock now.

<--- Not a liberal.
Although I'm not sure how you're equating intolerance to pit bulls with liberals...Is "Pit Boss" a popular conservative tv show now?

When you want to see some more good "liberal media" in action do a search for "pit bull" on liveleak.com. Warning...Not for those with weak stomachs.

I'll take a dog that is naturally docile and has been properly raised over one that is naturally aggressive and properly raised any day.

Actually just like to stir the pot...but you also somewhat proved my point along your rant. I think everyone agrees that "Pits" require a special owner, and in the hands of a moron can be dangerous...Someone who has a history of saying screw it lets give this dog away, probably shouldn't be owning a breed that requires that much selectivity in ownership.

Again you are basing you knowlegde of the entire breed on what you see on the liberal news.

Despite your assumptions that I'm basing this on a bunch of news articles I do have personal experience with these dogs. One of my best friends had one that absolutely loved me as well as every other person that he let in the house. That dog slept with me as a puppy when I crashed at his house. Then one night, after a few drinks, I opted to sleep in his spare bedroom. When I woke in the middle of the night and headed towards the bathroom to take a piss the dog came running out of his bedroom and tried to attack me. I was barely able to retreat into a room in time. The dog knew I was there when we all went to bed and I was yelling the dog's name the entire time trying to get him to back down. Sure, the dog was startled. Guess what, at some point all dogs get startled. That's not an excuse to attack somebody.

In addition, my girlfriend rescued a young one that was about 15-20 lbs. That's another long story. Basically it was a great dog to her and her housemate, but when they took it outside to pee it would make all attempts to attack anybody else that it saw. A person walking down the street would have been a victim if they didn't keep it on a tight leash. She is very experienced with dogs, but this one couldn't be taught not to be aggressive. She would usually wrestle the dog down, flip it on it's back, scold the hell out of it, and give it a couple of pops until it calmed down. Still, that dog was a liability and she had to get rid of it. If it had gotten out it would have attacked a person or another dog. You can't go through life expecting your dog to never get out.

This has nothing to do with "liberal" or "conservative" politics and everything to do with common sense. I have no doubt that many of you have owned great pits. I know one such pit right now that is very sheepish and doesn't even bark when I knock on the door. I've been around plenty of them that were very sweet. Still, I don't know what you think you're getting from these dogs that justifies dealing with this breed's problems when there are plenty of dogs out there that naturally have much better temperaments.

There is nothing at all wrong with giving an animal away. Remember we are talking about an ANIMAL not a human. I have never said screw it and gave a dog away, but I have had to move where i could not have a dog and had to give a couple away. I my ex wife didn't like animals so I gave a dog away. I had one dog that liked a guy who came to the house so much that he left with the guy. Although I guess I could haved always dumped them in the country or put a bullet in thier heads since that would make you feel better.

One of my dogs moved about a 1/4 mile up the road. BTW he was a Pitt MIX who was the sweetest dog I ever met. he was taken out of the pen by an asshole neighbor and dumped. A neighbor found him and did not know he was my dog and kept him for a few months. He still loves there. We go visit him a lot.

We just view dogs very differently, that's all.
My labs sleep in the bed with me.
If they couldn't live here, I'd move.
When one of my dogs died last summer I cried like a baby and was in a funk for a month of so.
If it came down to it, I'd feed my dogs before myself (but not before my wife/kids)
That's why I can justify bringing an animal into this world (remember they are OUR domain, they do not reproduce UNLESS we allow it) without 100% commitment to caring for it throughout its life.

No Id never dump them or put a bullet in one.

My jack Russel and my GP sleep in the bed with me. As do the cats. The rats and fish have to stay in their cages. When we had to put down our Wolf/Shepard hybrid afer 16 years I cried like a 2 year old. When my Miniature Schnauzer got out of the pen and got hit by a car I cried. Hell I cried when my albino rat Ruby died. She used to run aroudn my desk and collect stuff for her nest while I worked. She rode in the truck with me, and would go around the yard on my shoulder.

I had a rottweiler that slept with me during the day ( I worked third shift) and when I left for work she went next door and slept with the neighbors daughter. When they moved I let them take her because the daughter begged me.
