My brother recently just bought a new gateway laptop, its only 1.5 weeks old. He left it open and plugged in on the kitchen table and left for work apprently one of the cats managed to flip it off the table and onto its screen, leaving huge black spot. Has anyone been in a similar situation, and what have you done? He called gateway and they told him 500 to fix the screen, his computer wasn't alot more than that new. Are there any places in the triad area that I should check with to have it repaired? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Steve

You're probably not gonna get much cheaper than that. If you can get the model I might be able to see how much the display runs.

The first thing I would do is kill the cat, What good are they anyway,
Sorry,
They are good for storm food.....

Yeah the cats are on his hunting list, but in digging a little bit further I found that we could remove the screen ourselves and found replacements on ebay for 250. Thats still a lot of money for a college student, but a far cry from the 500 gateway quoted.

thanks steve

hmmmm, maybe I am a bad person but I would box it back up and take it to gateway and tell them you want a more exspensive one......pay the difference and run...:shaking: :shaking: :shaking:

Just kidding. EBAY IT

Be wary if you've never cracked open a laptop, depending on the model (and I've never worked on a gateway) you may have to crack the whole case to get everything unplugged. Make sure you find all of the screws before you start trying to separate the two pieces of the bezel. I won't be able to find it any cheaper than $250. If you want to pick up the screen, I could probably put it in for you for about $50-$60 if you don't feel up to the challenge.
