places to ride in Marshal, NC

There are no "public" OHV trails in or around Marshall, NC. I'm sure there are several private trails/roads used by landowners. My in-laws have about 60 acres in the Big Laurel community that I need to check out. Have to take a chainsaw and do some clearing though because it hasn't been used since logging 50+ years ago.

A couple of years ago I went with one one of my buddies to buy a dual sport over in Marshal and the guy said there where a few places to ride and here recently I have seen a few well modified jeeps in hot springs. Just was just curiouse where they where riding at.

Look for forest rd 422 or 422a. It's the back way to Rich Mtn fire tower. I think on some maps it's Bellcow rd or something like that. The top lands you at Hurricane gap.

Gates usually open in warm weather.

Bumpus Cove in Jonesboro TN isn't too far either.

Thanks for the information. Is it a lot like hurrican creek road, rougher or smoother wise? And do you get to forest rd through downtown hotsprings? Having a hard time finding it unless it's the forest service road that the hikers take to get to the tower.

A little rougher than Hurricane. Gets slick when wet, one pretty nice hill climb.

From Hot Springs take River Rd past Murray Branch picnic area to the Paint Creek corridor. Bear right at the intersections and go past the campground as you start to gain elevation look for the turn off on the right.

Thanks man for the info. That Bumpass Cove looks pretty good too. Watched some videos on YouTube on it. Never knew that place existed. Is that campground pretty good place to camp on the Nolachucky and what are the directions to it? Is the trail close to the bumpass cove cemetary?

I'm not sure about camping by the Noli. Yes Bumpus trail is near the cemetery, off hwy107 between Erwin and Jonesboro.

The Paint Creek/Rich Mtn area is patrolled regularly by the Forest Svc. Most rangers are nice, but remember any trouble becomes federal on FS land.

We have some pretty good trails on our side of the line too. Just about anything you want. I've just been riding the same ones for about 15 years and looking for some new places close to home but not as far as windrock or Harlen.
