My boy turns 5 yrs old Friday. My wife is off work that day and I am going to take ETO so we are thinking about going somewhere different for the day. We have pretty much taken him everywhere in the Triad area at least once. Last year we took him to The Discovery Place in Charlotte. He liked it a lot. We were thinking that Raleigh probably has a lot of cool places for kids his age. If you live there and have any favorite places, please post them. The weather should be good on Friday, so the place could be indoors or outdoors.

Thanks,
Danny

The Museum of Life and Science in Durham has indoor and outdoor stuff, including a new treehouse 'exhibit.'

We're big fans of the natural history museum in Raleigh. Animals, bugs, dinosaurs, a play room with awesome dino and bug costumes to play in...

Oh, and Marbles Kids Museum is just a couple blocks from the Natural History Museum. You can head a few blocks further south and go to Clyde Cooper's BBQ for lunch. ;)

these were my first thoughts as well

Yep my boy is 3 and loves the Schiele Museum near us. I just let him run around and he stares at all the different exhibits. Do you guys have a Discovery Place type place up there?

I know you asked about Raleigh, but by any chance have you ever taken your son to Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury? My son is 7 and he still loves going there. There is a train ride, a fairly large animal exhibit, gem mining, a carousel, paddle boats, and I am sure I am leaving something out. Its really cheap too since its state owned and run. Here is the link to their site,

We have been to Dan Nicholas Park 3 or 4 times. That place is great. My boy loves going there.

We have been to Lazy 5 Ranch once. We actually discussed going back there for this Friday, but figured it would be fun to do something different.

Thanks for all the ideas!

I was talking to someone at the Greensboro Children's museum yesterday, we were talking about the local places. He said the one in Durham is way better than the GSO one, the science center and SciWorks in W-S.
