Looking at a miller 375 extreme, called my local place today and the stock Hypertherm and he seemed to want to push it. They are a miller dealer but don't stock the miller. The miller and the Hypertherm equivalent are both $1400

Any opinions?

2nd that last place I worked we bought hypertherm . Reason behind was that's what both steel mills be bought from used after having multiple brands.

i been looking at those closely, watching youtube to. i believe iam going to go look at the 45 tomorrow. prices look to be around $1700-$1800 on it

Just to add to the sentiment, miller doesn't make a great plasma. Hypertherm makes their torches, I think, but makes them to Miller standards. Consumables aren't cheap. And everybody I've talked to at Airgas has little good to say about them. Hypertherm seems to be the benchmark if you're looking to spend any real money. For me, if I can't swing a HT, I might as well pick up a Chinese CUT50 for $300.

I had a Miller Xtreme 375 and was extremely impressed with it. WIth that said, everyone on the internet (so you know its true) that had used the Miller and the comparable Hypertherm said the Hypertherm was a little better than the Miller. You can't go wrong with either one though. I could make beautiful, clean cuts through 3/8" plate all day long with the Miller, and it was super easy to tote around.

No, it's still 5-3 in favor of Hypertherm. ;) I'm sure you can't go wrong either way. The Miller is probably a fine unit. And if you really like keeping your shop blue, then it's obviously the choice for you. I'm just saying that HT's reputation is better. I think if you auditioned them side by side, the HT would probably come out on top.

After reading and comparing both Iam leaning to the hyper. My original thing was to keep everything blue. Tig set up to follow the plasma and a miller will be that. And the powermax 45 seems the best for my budget, which was around $1500 but I can swing the extra for what the 45 can do.

What is your local place? Is it Robert's Oxygen just off exit 13? I bet if you walked in with cash in hand, they might make you a better deal.

Yes I'll buy from Roberts. I bought my 212 there and Iam always there getting something so maybe he will have some mercy on me lol

Most shops have a lot of wiggle room. They need to offer a blue paint or wrap option for the HT plasmas. I've known several guys with the same predicament. Want to keep it blue, but can't justify buying a miller plasma. But yeah, welders should be blue.

Personally, I dont care what color the tool is, as long as it is the best tool for the job. Does anybody here have a toolbox with only one brand of tools in it? I doubt it.
