Hey all, I've never used a plasma cutter before and need some suggestions. I am working on a set of 12 bolt H1 wheels and need to cut a 11-1/2 in. diameter hole out of the middle of the outer half. Basically, what I need is being done in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pic of this thread.

Now, on the other half (the inner half) of the wheel has about a 1/8" thick flange that is 11-1/2" in diameter that could be used as a pattern or a guide for cutting the outer half. I can email someone pics of my rims to post if you can't visualize it. I'd like to know if it is possible to make a nice clean cut using a plasma cutter and the inner flange as a guide for cutting with the cutter, without damaging the inner flange.

i bolted mine to the front hub and used a hose clamp to secure my plasma to my folding stand. Got it started, had duct tape ready to slap on trigger, and slowly rotated the wheel. Did that for both cuts.

thanks for the info all. tknopp hooked me up and we're good to go. i hear ya, torch and grinder... i guess i could have turned the arc welder all the way up and burned them out that way as well :)
