Has anyone used those TV stands that look like the regular ones, but have an extension that hold the LCD/plasma a few feet above the top of it?

I'm wondering how stable they are with a decent size set - ours is about 80lbs..

Rich,
I was in a customers home last week that had (I believe the exact oen pictured) one. Damn it scared thee crap out of me, but it actually seemed quite stable. I cant in good faith give it a yay or nay, as it was sturdy but just makes me cringe lookig at the damn thing.

I can't understand why this is the one fawking piece of furniture that nobody can get right. I've looked at lots and lots of them, and found something stupid or shitty about every single one.

We're having a cabinet maker custom build it. Not that it really answers your question, but it's probably worth keeping in mind.

Is mounting the TV to the wall any stronger? Or is that to much work?

These will hide the wires, but gives us more options in placement mainly.

I have one kinda looks the same. It came with the TV when i bought it (50" DLP) and it holds up great, no problems at all.

nvm my tv sits on the stand!

We had one, very stable, had to be, my 10yo likes to run around the house with her friends. We did end up selling it as we decided to mount the tv on the wall
