I currently have aluminum wheels, and I am looking for a change. I would prefer some matte black wheels, so I was wondering if anyone has plasti dipped alumnium wheels or simply spray bombed a set. How do they hold up? How do they look?

I used wheel paint on my old jeep wheels and currently on my truck. it holds up great no chipping or anything, just make sure the surface is clean of any oils or dirt and have at it. You dont even have to tape off the tire because once its dry if flakes off the rubber. I got my paint at autozone for about 6.00 a can 3 cans did all 5 amazingly

That is good to hear, seems like this may be the best route for me to take

yep, I have spray bombed a couple of sets.
The key is prepwork, get them nice and clean. Also if you prime first, that will help them stick.
A neat trick is to buy a couple decks of cheap playing cards and jamb them around the bead, making a sort of collar, so you don't get overspray on the tire. A good primer might stick to the rubber.

Cool trick with the playing cards

Ive spray painted several sets of wheels. Prep is the key to a good finish. Also using petroleum jelly on the tires will keep any paint from sticking to them, and it will keep your tires shiny for a long time!

Paint

I used VHT Engine paint because it uses heat to cure and is chemical resistant. This means salts and detergents won't mess with it. I just baked each wheel in the oven for an hour at 200*. So far the finish is rock hard and I am very happy.
