OK I have been using the search button I promise I know the use of a tow bar is not reccomended unless its behind an RV But there is no way I can afford a trailer. I have an 89 Cherokee roughly 8 in lift 35's and a SBC. My wife recently just got a 2001 Land Rover Discovery 2 4.0 V8. Pulls good. Is it just absolutely out of the question that I could possibly use it to flat tow my jeep to URE or tellico? I live in Marion and I have pulled hauled things my whole life I know easy on the skinny and quick on the brake! Also best tow bar for the buck? I can't afford a Blue OX

I wouldn't tow shit with a Land Rover. You'd be doing good to get just that there without it breaking, let alone making it haul the weight of another vehicle. On the bright side when the LR breaks you can just unhook the Jeep and keep on a truckin'. In all seriousness, the LR is too "fragile" to tow anything. Consider yourself lucky it starts.

Ive always felt like flat towing a rig wheeling is a bad idea... there are an awful lot of things that could go wrong, that would make it difficult to flat tow home.

At the same time, having another vehicle to drive to get parts will help lol

You would probably have better luck towing the Rover with the V8 Xj.

BlueOx's ain't cheap to feed.

As has been said that LR is too light and too fragile to pull anything with. And if you break an axle in the jeep will defiantly not be able to tow the rig home. Save your pennies and pic up a cheap 3/4 ton tow rig and a trailer. You sanity and your insurance rates will thank you.

/\ /\/\ he has it right.Pick you up a cheap 3/4 or 1 ton work truck and a used trailer and life will be good for ya.I spent years flat towing my Willys behind my wrangler 130 miles to UNF and 268 miles to Mt.City and let me tell ya,just flat towing with the 1 ton crew cab was nite and day...with trailer was like scoring a home run on a third date.Work trucks sale all the time on C-list and as long as you don't "need" something fancy...they are very affordable.

Any idea what the total weight of that XJ is, loaded w/ equipment etc? I'd guess that sucker is pretty heavy.

Even w/o a trailer, I'm betting you will be near or past the GVWR of the Disco. Even if it dosn't hurt the vehicle, if you get pulled and weighed that's a niiiiice fine.

plus w/ flat towing a big vehicle like that, you'll have to have brake/turn signal lights b/c the tow vehicle's won't be visible. So plan on that extra wiring etc. And, you'll need a valid plate for the towed vehicle.
