First off, I am only tlaking about fixed windows in the rear (tailgate window and very rear cargo windows). Does anyone run plexi glass instead of regular glass in these windows? What are your experiences? Worth it? Do you just silicone it in?

for durability, look into lexan rather than plexiglass, it will flex rather than crack apart, it's more expensive as well. both will tend to scratch fairly easily, it depends on if you're looking for an off-road only rig.

This is for an off-road only rig but it is still street legal.

We used 1/8" plexiglass from lowes on a buddys cherokee after his got removed with a ball bat one night. I'd recommend using at least 1/4" if your gonna use plexiglass. The thinner stuff would vibrate in the wind. Lexan will be more scratch resistant though.

I had it for a while. It moved and sometimes popped out, however I used the stock gasket. It it had been bolted in I'm sure I wouldn't have had a problem.. Too much flex. I ended up going with snap in windows I had made at a local boat canvas shop.

This was my favorite option, but my jeep is so dented up now none of the snaps line up and the hatch has been torn off.

use 3/16 lexan and it's worth the extra money to get the GE scratch resistant. it will start to yellow after a few years but it wont happen over night. i use 3M window weld to install it that's the same stuff your factory glass is held in with. also you can make up some small aluminum tabs to hold it like circle track racers use on their windsheilds.
a few years ago a few buddies and i shot up a old yota that was retired and it had a lexan windsheild, bullets just glanced up in the air when they hit it.:lol:

So where do you guys get your Lexan?

Call some local glass supply houses, possibly some race car supply shops too. I had a glass guy down here order some for me once.

Anything special to use to cut lexan?

nothing special to cut it with, jig saw table saw etc will work

btw if you paint about a 2" wide strip around the inner perimeter of the lexan it will give it a really clean look
