Plug Wires

I was looking around for a new set of plug wires since I put in the new dizzy. I was just going to pick up a new set of 8mm spiral core wires. I have an AMC V-8 I am upgrading to fuel injection.
I first noticed the bigger 8.5mm or 8.8mm wires in PEP boys, then I checked Summit Racing and they have a slew of plug wires 8.X mm.
My question is; Is it worth the extra coin for say the 8.5 or 8.8mm plug wires. An 8mm set can be had for about $30 in round numbers while the newer 8.X go for anywhere from $60 on up.
Any recommendations for a good reliable offroad non-race application? Thanks.

I found a deal on some wires that had been custom made for a ford, with the wrong ends on them. They had the insolaters on them so they look hugmongus. My jeep was running fine when I replaced them, and it was the difference in night and day. It just sounded a lot better. I am gonna assume it getting better economy too.

Eric,

if you are gonna use Spiral Cores, get the Universal set where you make your own length. You will be able to route your wires where you want them, and then trim the excess.

Works better for you as a result, as they are routed where YOU want them, not where they happen to fit, and no excess wire to get caught or find a place to stuff it out of the way.

End result would be a cleaner looking package under the hood, which makes it easier to find probelms with other systems.

Guys,
Thanks. I have a universal set that I cut for the custom lengths. I need different connectors for the new dizzy. If its even possible (dunno) to buy new connectors and re-do they might be too short now by the time I cut.

What I really wanted to know is, Is there a difference between the 8mm wires and the 8.x mm (x=5, 6, 8) wires besides cost. If you think electricity flowing through a wire like fluid flowing through a pipe, the 8.xmm wires are a bigger pipe, thus getting more juice to the plugs. I wanted to know if someone has these and saw a noticable performance difference.

Use what you have if you can, the extra thickness is to handle the higher enery ignition systems some race appplications use.

The extra thickness would make routing more of a challenge as they are not near as flexable. 8mm wires are fine for your app.
