Should this vent be under my sink? Getting sewer gas smell. Can I cap it? It's after the trap.

just replace it--should be able to get one at lowes or a local
plumbing supply store. don't cap it cause it won't drain correctly
and might cause a "dry trap" making the sewer smell worse.

Thanks

As above - the answer is "yes" it can be there, it's basically just replacing the vent line that should be in the wall and going up the roof. Not ideal but a lot of people have them.

I pulled it off and put a zip lock bag with a rubber band over the pipe. Going to lowes after work.

All I know about plumbing.

Hot is on the left
cold is on the right.
shit goes down
stink goes up.

This stink didn't seem to go up far enough.

Yeah, Studor vents shouldn't smell. It should only open when there's a vacuum in the pipe.

Still having sewer gas smell, after some looking & thinking a minute. I overlooked that the dish washer drain is hooked in on the sewer side of the "p" trap. Thus the smell must be coming in through the dishwasher drain. from my magical google foo powers I understand this is a common mistake. I pulled the hose & plugged the drain port. Back the the plumbing section..

I hate plumbing. I put in a new kitchen sink and added a disposal a couple months ago, it took me forever to figure out how to do the p trap, and all I needed was one extra 90° fitting and a slip joint looking piece.

I'm an electrician, water kills electricians.

Bingo.
Good friend is a plumber.
He tries to tell me we both run pipes...but I always remind him when my joints aint tight my electricity doesnt spill out on the floor, and my shit will flow uphill, downhill, around corners and dont care.

I moved the drain for the dish washer (wife replacement) to the sink side of the "p" trap. Took 3 trips to lowes but I gotter done. No more sewer smell.

Now on to ripping tile from my hallway & stripping the original trim from 1946. I'll eventually have @GotWood over here on the wood floors. But I have 2 rooms to sheet rock & paint first.. The joys of home ownership...
