PO left extra parts in the hub which led me to...GM Caliper Conversion CJ5

I was having problems with my front calipers sticking and was wondering what was going on. I have heard CJ calipers are notorious for dragging so I found out that a relatively inexpensive setup is to swap over to GM style calipers. I ordered the parts for the conversion and did not think about the possibility of my hubs not being set up right.

I took Transman's advice to get a clean piece of cardboard and lay everything out the way you take it off. After pulling the locking hub I found a mangled washer, stripped spindle nut, another washer, a back out spindle nub and another washer...So basically the only thing holding on the tire was the disc brakes (no wonder they were dragging).

I then ordered a spindle nut kit and finally got everything back together last night. Take a look at the extra mangled washer and the right way to bend the large flat washer over the outer spindle nut (I used a tire iron from Harbor Freight).

I read about them... Is there a pin that is installed? How do they stay on?
The inner nut has the pin... the perforated washer has a tab to locate it on the spindle (via keyway) and the holes fit over the pin to keep the inner from spinning. The outer nut simply "jams" it all together...

MUCH better than the "fold over" method.
I just wish someone made the old Warn "Lock-O-Matic" style (inner nut with pin, similar perforated washer, & outer nut w/ multiple setscrews), I'd be all over it!

Everything put together and bled for a morning cruise. The GM caliper seem to have a better motion and feel than the stock ones.
