Hello everyone! I'm home alive and cooled off. I'm so proud to be able to claim being a part of this wonderful 4-wheeling community. This weekend was a huge success even with all the snafu's. Biggest snafu was the weather – I wish I had known the heat was going to be so bad. Unfortunately I was not able to predict the weather 6 months ago :( The second snafu was the poker cards themselves. The cards were stacked but stacked in everyone's favor because two of the 5 playing decks were Pinochle cards (9 – A only cards) – oops! Lastly, the cakes and pies didn't look as pretty by Saturday evening as they did Wednesday night after I made them. I was so hoping other people were going to make them. My fears are that the apple pie will taste like Apple Wine Pie and the Banana Fudge Ribbon Cake will taste like – who knows!
Alright onto the praise and thanks! The next time you see the following folks, give them a huge round of applause: John Barclay (member of CORE and the stop at Kodak Rock); Jason Stinson (member of Carolina Ridge Runners and the stop at the Dutch John hill climb); Erika Hamby (member of Vertical Excursions and Carolina Ridge Runners and the stop at Show-Off Rock); and Todd Rinehart (lurker of many clubs and the trail leader for the one group)! I could not have done this without them! Please thank them the next time you see them.
I also could not have done this without the sponsors! Thank you, thank you, thank you to Chris Cagle at The Eldorado Outpost (he put up with my lack of memory, stored the cake with Butter Cream icing, supplied the trough for the Gem Find, and donated the two meals for the raffle), he has a heart of gold! Thank you to Performance Off Road ($200 in gift certificates), Herculiner (Free Bed Liner Kit), Cabela's (mini multi-tools and deluxe gear bags), Tom Woods 4x4 Custom Driveshafts (backpacks, travel bags and hats), Hi-Lift Jacks (Hi-Lift Jack Cover and gift certificates), Sandy Walker (beautiful B&W photo of Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway that was framed), the Forestry Service of Uwharrie (#5 Season Pass), AllThingsJeep.com (“Know Your Rearends” T-shirts), and the Carolina Ridge Runners (for donating a $50 off Tom Wood's 4x4 Custom Driveshafts gift certicate). I also need to thank Jims Gems and Gold for donating bags for the kids to pan for gems.
Last but not least, without you all we would not have raised $845!!!!! A round of applause to everyone who participated in the Poker Run! I can't wait for next year. I plan on making a few upgrades in the way things run since so many turned out for this one (such as having three groups leave at three different times so the volunteers know when everyone has gone through, making sure I have all regular playing cards, and since it was so successful, I think we can up the best hand winner to $200 next year – but you have to bring one new rig per person). :D If you have pictures and videos, please send me a copy so I can post it on the website for the sponsors to see. Any other feedback is welcomed!

was that old skool land rover part of the group or did you meet him on the trails? Mike R. has a picture of them also.

nah he was just out there. That one got stuck on Dutch John and the folks in front of him stopped us all for awhile. :shaking:

But we did have a one landrover in the run that I rmbr.
